January 17, 2025 – The Library of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Diponegoro University (UNDIP) continues to innovate in disseminating information by taking a creative approach through podcast media, namely the Perfekta Podcast. Together with internship students from the Diponegoro University Library Science Study Program (UNDIP), the library seeks to ‘revive’ this podcast to make it more relevant, interactive, and interesting for the audience, so that it can again become a medium to increase interest in literacy and provide more flexible and accessible access to information.

By utilizing digital technology, especially the YouTube platform, this podcast brings a variety of interesting topics around the world of libraries, books, literacy and economics to a wider audience. Through informative and inspiring discussions, this podcast is an educational tool for students and the general public who want to broaden their horizons. The Perfekta Podcast can be accessed through the FEB Undip Library YouTube account at https://www.youtube.com/@perpustakaanfakultasekonom5208

So far, the Perfekta Podcast has raised topics around phenomena that are often experienced by library users (users) such as library anxiety, then the librarian profession which is often underestimated, to tips on mastering final project research. The speakers presented in this podcast are certainly competent in their fields, so they can provide deeper insight into the topics discussed.

In making the perfekta podcast, each student intern, consisting of Dlovia, Najwa, Fadilla, and Tsania, carried out several stages. The stages of making a podcast start from the pre-production process to ensure smooth running before production, these stages include,

  1. Brainstorming ideas for topics to be raised in the podcast.
  2. Determination of sources and hosts according to the topic to be raised.
  3. Drafting a script to maintain the harmony of the discussion during the podcast.
  4. Preparation of technical needs for video taking, such as setting up cameras and microphones, to preparing software that will be used for video production.

“The process of brainstorming topic ideas is an important first step. From here, we learn how to determine the right sources and hosts, as well as develop scripts so that the discussion remains focused and interesting to listen to.” said Najwa.

Then the interns are given the opportunity to become hosts. Being a podcast host is an effective way to hone public speaking skills. In this role, the host is required to speak clearly and interestingly, manage the conversation, and keep the discussion flowing. This experience also trains confidence, improves articulation to make messages easier to understand, and develops improvisational skills to respond smoothly to unexpected situations.

“Public speaking is not just about speaking, but also listening well. As podcast hosts, we have to listen carefully to our interviewees so that we can respond appropriately and keep the flow of the conversation interesting,” said Tsania,

After the interns have completed their role as host, they will also be taught how to be an operator during podcast filming. This process involves the introduction of basic techniques in the operation of filming equipment, ranging from cameras, software for editing and producing videos in real-time, to sound settings. Thus, interns not only gain experience in speaking in front of the camera, but also develop the technical skills required in podcast production as a whole.

“In the production of this podcast, we received full support from the FEB library team as well as various new knowledge related to what software is used in video production, how to make camera settings, and audio settings,” said Fadilla.

Furthermore, after the production process has been completed, it continues with the podcast post-production process, in order to perfect the podcast recordings that have been obtained previously, the stages include,

  1. Transferring the podcast video file from the computer.
  2. Editing previews and the entire podcast video using editing software.
  3. Designing an attractive design for each podcast thumbnail.
  4. Finalization and publication of podcast videos that will be uploaded to the YouTube platform.

“By making podcasts with the FEB Library, we as student interns get a variety of hands-on experience about the digital media production process. Starting from being a host, operating filming equipment, using video production software, to editing, everything gives us experience related to practical skills that are not learned in lectures, but are quite necessary in the world of work later,” said Dlovia.

Through the Perfekta Podcast, the FEB Undip Library seeks to introduce the world of literacy in a lively way.
