An internship is an opportunity given so that someone can practice the knowledge they have acquired in college. Through internships, you can get to know and broaden your knowledge and scope of work according to your field and train your skills to become a competent individual from various experiences both at work and in society. In this case, the Diponegoro University Library Science study program also participated by sending four (4) students to carry out mandatory internship activities at the Library of the Faculty of Economics and Business for 34 days.
The internship, which runs from December 27 2023 to February 16 2024, provides students with the opportunity to gain practical experience in an academic library environment. Four (4) students who did internships at the Library of the Faculty of Economics and Business, namely Talitha Salsabila, Ayu Amalia Azzahra, Anindya Deanova Prestyorini, and Alisa Nadia Rahmani stated that this experience was very valuable for their professional development in the field of library science.
The four students’ internship activities were carried out by implementing a rolling system on the placement schedule for each student in each service in the Library of the Faculty of Economics and Business. These students were placed in a placement format: two students were placed in the circulation service on the first floor, one student was placed in the reference service on the second floor, and one student was placed in the digilib service on the third floor. The four students have been placed in different services every week, so it is certain that the four students have experienced working in all library services.
Internship students do many things in the Library of the Faculty of Economics and Business. Starting from assisting librarians in shelving collections, carrying out inventory of the latest procurement books, cataloging procurement books, cataloging collections of thesis scientific works, helping to upload theses and theses scientific works to the repository, making visitor reports, attending library program design discussion activities, compiling library promotional materials, to creating various library promotional content on social media.
The fourth internship for Library Science students at the Faculty of Economics Library not only provides benefits for the students themselves, but also for the library institution. The experience gained by these four students can be an inspiration for other students to take part in internship activities to develop their professional careers in the field of library science.
